Alex Patterson – Musical Director of Radcliffe Ladies Choir

Born in Downpatrick on 3 June 1988, Alex Patterson was raised on a farm nestled in the Mourne Mountains in the County Down countryside. His first compositions began to emerge whilst he was an amateur organist in his local Bryansford Parish Church and also during his studies at Down High School, where his first carols were premiered in the nearby Down Cathedral (burial place of St Patrick).

A keen choral singer, Alex sang with the Ulster Youth Choir and Ulster Youth Chamber Choir before moving to study music at the University of Nottingham in 2006. An active figure in the bustling music department, Alex also gained a choral scholarship at St Barnabas Cathedral under the directorship of Neil Page. Before graduating in 2009, Alex was named composer-in-residence at the cathedral where he continues to sing tenor on a regular basis.

Alex has been described as ‘a major creative talent’ (Nottingham Evening Post) within the city of Nottingham, working in a number of capacities with a wide variety of organisations such as Arts Council England, UK Young Artists and Music for Everyone and in addition has recently received commissions from the East of England Singers, the Radcliffe Male Voice Choir and the Ripley Music Festival. In addition to his role as musical director, Alex also teaches music locally and in his spare time is studying composition at postgraduate level at Birmingham Conservatoire.

Judy Holborow – Accompanist

Judy Holborow lives locally in Radcliffe on Trent and is a teacher by profession. She is a very talented musician and the RLC were delighted when she became our permanent accompanist in May of 2008. We feel privileged to have her as part of our Choir and hope she will remain with us for many years to come.
