A note from our musical director:
It was during our usual post-rehearsal drinks in The Manvers Arms when I suggested that the ladies do a ‘Calendar Girls’ style calendar. There was much amusement at the idea and a fair majority of those ladies in the pub weren’t sure if I was being serious or not (I suppose I did have a couple of glasses of wine…)
I came across the original ‘Calendar Girls’ story through the 2003 film. The idea that a bunch of women were prepared to pose for a nude (not naked) calendar in order to raise money for an extremely worthwhile cause was inspirational. When word got around that I was being serious and we were definitely going ahead, I was heartened to see so many members sign up.
Our first port of call was the original story and, as if by chance, the stage show was touring through Nottingham at the time. A number of us went along and I think it was there that we all realised why we were doing it. After spending a couple of weeks planning, we all gracefully donned our gowns and kimonos to set up the shot and then wait for Ann, our photographer, to tell us it was time. A barrel of laughs later and we had our final set of photographs, complete with captions – some of which may be familiar to regular audience members at our choir concerts.
It is regrettable that members of our choir have been affected by breast cancer in some way or another. By doing this calendar we wanted to give those who are currently dealing with the disease a bit of comic relief and raise money to help their care and support. This calendar is dedicated to all those within our choir community who have been affected in any way with breast cancer. We had an absolute blast making this calendar and I hope that it brings you the same joy and amusement.
Huge thanks must go to Kate Bailey, Sian Barnard, Ann Ward & Matt Barnard, who have been instrumental in putting the calendar together.
Alex Patterson (Musical Director)
